Judges
Welcome to an unique (but biblical!) journey through the book of Judges. The eight sermons in this series illustrate the complete and utter failure of Israel to keep God’s covenant. It's a downward spiral where God’s people, having failed to drive out the Canaanites, fall into sin and idolatry, are oppressed by the Canaanites because of that sin and idolatry, call out to God seeking forgiveness and help, enjoy the peace that comes with God's deliverance and, over time, fall into sin once again. It's a downward spiral because the sin and idolatry and judges used by God become worse.
But, the book of Judges is important for the church because it shows us oh so clearly that our salvation depends on the work of God alone. Human leaders are tainted by sin but by God’s grace, even these broken vessels can be used for his glory. And the mistakes of our leaders, rather than leading us into despair or further sin, ought to be invitations for us to recommit ourselves to the ways to the Lord and to amend our lives.
