Assurances for 2020--Behold the Mountaintops!

January 1, 2020

Topic: Providence, Grace Scripture: Genesis 7:11– 8:5

NOTE: Due to technical difficulties, the sound level on this recording is low and variable.

When Noah and his family were in the ark, they must have wondered about their future.  They must have asked each other, "When will the rains stop? Will we ever walk on dry land again? What will the earth be like after the flood?"  Even when the rains did stop, the world must have looked like a bleak place to them, with nothing but water as far as the eye could see.  "But God remembered Noah" (Genesis 8:1), the floods did recede, and the mountaintops began to show though the floodwaters.  The sight of the mountaintops was a reminder to Noah and his family of God's unfailing grace and providence.

Many of us are wondering about our future, especially now at the start of a new year; to some of us, the world may look like a bleak place.  Whatever our circumstances, though, we can see signs of God's unfailing grace and providence to us, like mountaintops sticking up though the floodwaters.
