Topic: Thankfulness Scripture: Ephesians 5:1–20

For followers of Jesus Christ, Thanksgiving Day should not be just one day of the year, but every day of the year.  However, the trials of life often make thankfulness a challenge--it's hard for a person to be thankful when they've been laid off, or their child has been diagnosed with cancer, or when their town has been flattened by a hurricane.

God's Word is honest (sometimes brutally so) about how difficult life can be.  However, it also calls us again and again to be thankful, regardless of what our circumstances are.  Thankfulness is a vital part of the life of faith.  Indeed, many sins, including the ones that the apostle Paul referred to in this passage, betray a lack of thankfulness in the people who commit those sins.  It may be difficult for a person to be thankful in trying times, but it's impossible for a person to be thankful when they're consumed with a lust for more weath, power, or pleasure.
