The Mind of Christ
February 16, 2020 Pastor: John Medendorp
Topic: Holy Spirit Passage: 1 Corinthians 2:1–2:16
The church in Corinth, to whom Paul addressed this letter, was stuggling with divisions. Different groups in the church were following different teachers, much like people in the culture around them would follow different philosophers. Each group was looking for secret spiritual wisdom--for a sort of "silver bullet" for spiritual growth and living as a child of God.
Paul warned the Corinthians away from this sort of factionalism and the cults of personality that sprung up around the various teachers they were following. He reminded them that the secret to spiritual wisdom and growth is really no secret at all--it is revealed to all people in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we all are united with Christ; we are able to discern the will of God by listening for the Spirit's guidance in the advice of our fellow believers.
