A few years ago, the hashtag #blessed was trending on social media. Unfortunately, this was not because people were expressing humble thanks for what the Lord had given them. Instead, most people who used this hashtag were bragging about some new success in their lives (like a promotion, or a new car).
The church in Corinth could have used the hashtag #blessed to refer to themselves, since many of the members of that church were wealthy. In this passage, the apostle Paul reminded the Corinthians that God expected them to use their blessings to bless others. He pointed out that everything they had was a gift of God, and he urged them to give to those in need out of gratitude to God. Paul's message is for us today, as well as for the Corinthians.
